Lincoln, Nebraska – July 05, 2005 Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI), a leader in providing core banking software and advanced imaging solutions to community banks, announced today that the Bennington State Bank in Kansas (BSB) has begun sending electronic image cash letters to the Federal Reserve Bank (FRB). Using the Insite Banking System™, BSB began sending their imaged electronic cash letter directly to the FRB on June 27, 2005. This new capability is an important step towards the implementation of efficiencies enabled through Check21.
BSB has implemented the Insite Check Imaging System™ in four of its locations, allowing each location to image its own items utilizing Canon CR-180 check scanners. The branch locations transmit imaged items to the main facility through the secured wide area network. BSB scans 18,000 and submits 7,000 images on average each business day. Check images with MICR line information are then aggregated and electronically sent to the FRB via Tumbleweed®, a secure transport client. This ability has eliminated the bank’s need for a courier service and reduces float associated with the bank’s outgoing remit items as well as reduces adjustments due to lost or misrouted checks.
Mike Berkley, BSB President, says, “The ability to utilize the Insite Check Imaging™ application to transmit an electronic cash letter is just another example of how the staff of ASI works with its bank clients to implement cost-effective technology to keep them ahead of the curve. Dating back to 1995, this type of innovative partnership with ASI has enabled BSB to remain competitive in our market while allowing us to keep pace with our customers’ demands for products and services.”
Darren Gragg, BSB Chief Technology Officer, added, “The use of a standardized SQL 2000 database combined with proven Canon hardware, and a very solid programming structure from ASI, gave us the ability to implement with confidence. We also were able to build in Disaster Recovery options which the ASI platform molded to very well.”
Bradley Perry, ASI Operations Manager, commenting on the completion of the testing and certification by BSB: “Automated Systems constantly strives to develop ways for our customers to be more efficient and more profitable. Our R&D investment in the Check 21 initiative is paying off as we are seeing banks like BSB benefiting from opportunities to improve processing efficiency and reduced costs.”
