Before I started in IDS OT (On-Time), I worked at a bank for 16-years. I began my career as a teller and, after three years, moved into the Operations department. I loved my job at the bank, as every day brought a variety of interesting, new challenges. There was never a dull moment. When I decided to move to Lincoln, Nebraska, I landed a job at ASI in the IDS OT department. I was excited to learn more about what goes on behind the scenes of the bank, as a Processor.
Looking back, working at the bank was pretty straight forward. The ACH transactions were posted, before I even walked through the door. The 10 o’clock incoming cash letter was memo-posted without so much as lifting a finger. Same day ACH? Those were a breeze too. I would just verify and hit the accept button. Sending that last outgoing cash letter was done behind the scenes and I didn’t have to look for duplicates, because someone else notified me when we had one. I could leave right at 5pm, without worrying about anything outstanding.
Starting at ASI has really opened my eyes and made me appreciate what those amazing people behind the scenes really do for Financial Institutions every day. From 7am to 8pm, the dedicated staff in IDS OT is there for our banks. We start our morning by posting all of our banks’ ACH transactions before 9am, meeting NACHA regulations. We then post the morning cash letter and send out the first round of same day ACH transactions.
Next, we bring in the 10 o’clock cash letter, send and post Same Day ACH Transactions. Around 11am, we start the first round of banks who want their NSF, NonPost/Exceptions, and Stop Pays handled. We call this the Deposit Exceptions segment. Next, we send out that last same day window for ACH transactions. Wait can you believe it’s noon already?? Time to grab a lunch – yum.
Then, we move on for the next posting of ACH Transactions and more Deposit Exceptions. Before you know it, it’s 3pm and we have already started the End of Day Processing, taking us into 6pm. Don’t forget, you have to get statements all ready to be printed by a third party.
I’ve been told that End of Year Processing is also quite the well-oiled operation to view in the IDS OT department. We do it all, making everything ready to go when you walk in the bank on January 2nd. No late night required for you, you have IDS OT for that.
The IDS OT team knows how to handle any delays from other vendors. We are even willing to stay late if there is a delay in the posting or receiving of files, as sometimes happens through Correspondent Banks. IDS OT takes care of the details, so you don’t have to.
Working for ASI as an IDS OT Processer is vastly different from working in a bank. But I love the culture, the creativity, and the amazing team in IDS OT. Every day is still different, bringing on new challenges. There is definitely never a dull moment in IDS OT. My days go by much faster and I have a deeper appreciate for those who are behind the scenes. Yes, I love this job, too!
